Who is taking care of you?

After six intensive years of study and one year of internship Dr. Taryn Jacobs qualified with a Master’s Degree in Homoeopathy in 2002. During this time she was awarded distinction for her research of binge eating disorder in women and was honoured for outstanding contribution to homoeopathy. Soon after completing her training and internship she spent time as a resident homoeopath on the Transnet-Phelophepa Health Care Train which is a mobile clinic bringing medical care to rural South Africa before her employment as the manager of an integrated health pharmacy in Johannesburg.

Keen to explore the world Dr. Taryn Jacobs later moved to the UK where for a short time she worked at both the prestigious Farmacia of Selfridges in London and the Organic Pharmacy on the King’s Road, London, advising and treating an eclectic clientele. Dr. Jacobs spent her free time travelling as much as possible before taking the decision to start her own practice based in Nottinghill, London, in 2004. In 2007 her practice moved to West Sussex.

From 2004 – 2014 Dr. Taryn Jacobs lectured in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology at the Essentials for Health London School of Massage, University College London, the College of Practical Homoeopathy, and the Centre for Homeopathic Education at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital. She has been a guest speaker at the sheTIME events, speaking to women about the powerful inner guidance system that their monthly cycle offers. Dr. Jacobs presented lectures for SELHOG on a number of occasions, on topics ranging from hormonal health to new motherhood. She was a guest speaker at the Irish Homeopathic Conference 2012 and continued to teach women's health subjects to students at CHE London. During that time she also ran private workshops for women who like her are committed to creating wholeness and well-being. Her talks have always drawn from both professional and personal experience, offering a very honest and open forum. The workshops endeavoured to demystify the female hormonal system and teach women how to use their body, emotions and monthly cycles to tap into the wisdom, healing and creativity that they innately have access to.

During the course of her private practice, dedicated specifically to women's health, Dr Jacobs fleshed out her learning and trained in reiki, kinesiology and emotional freedom technique (“tapping”) which she incorporates when appropriate into her practice.Dr. Jacobs has spent invaluable time with modern day shamans in both Somerset, England, and Cape Town, South Africa, gaining a deeper understanding of the more subtle and spiritual aspect of the healing process.

In 2008 Taryn became enamoured and in love with a new chapter of her life when she had her first child, and again two years later with the birth of her second. In birthing her children she found the confidence to heed a call to write. She chronicled some of her early motherhood experiences on her blog Lessons from the MotherHood.  Today she still writes everywhere she can – her journals, plentiful note books, post-it notes. She had an article published in Wild Sister Magazine (February 2012), called the Self-Love Diet.

In 2013 Dr. Taryn Jacobs took a sabbatical from private practice to commit to exploring her creative talents. Life however had other plans and Taryn unwittingly entered into a period of deep and transformative healing. In 2014 she and her family took the decision to relocate to the Western Cape, South Africa, during which time she encountered her own health challenges which ultimately became her toughest and most qualified teacher.

In 2016 Taryn welcomed her third son.

She can only describe the last few years as a redefining and refining of all that she is that has given her life  an entirely new and invigorating flavour.

With a refreshed perspective and deeper compassion Taryn resumed practice in 2017. With a focused commitment to support Mothers she founded MotheringMe. Taryn helps mothers to creatively and completely care for their own needs, desires and lives while meeting the ceaseless demands of motherhood.  She believes motherhood is not something to simply survive but rather sur-thrive!

Dr. Taryn Jacobs firmly believes that mothers are suffering unnecessarily and often in isolation as they strive to create the perfect “do-it-all-and-be-all-things-to-all-people” life. She invites mothers to open themselves to a different way of mothering their children, projects, relationships and themselves to create an experience that is healthier, less frenetic, more present and more receptive to ultimately allow for joy to replace suffering.

She has observed that the way of self-sacrifice as a function of motherhood has been and still is very destructive and disruptive to women’s health and well-being and that of their families. You will often hear her say “When it comes to how we mother , martyrdom is so last season!!”

Taryn is still learning to balance and infuse her family life, work and relationships with joy and more pleasure while maintaining her well-being and rich inner life. She offers all that she learns freely and generously with her patients and followers.
